Run for Victims of Cluster Bombs:

Up to a million unexploded cluster bombs from Lebanon's July 2006 war are now

the biggest aftermath threat to civilians in south Lebanon, where they

surround streets, homes, and farms.

Cluster bombs are parts of explosives dropped from the air or launched from the

ground. They are explosive if moved, transported or sometimes touched

from the ground. They can get caught up in bushes, trees and fences,

which make it very dangerous for residents living nearby.

Until now, more than 18 people have been killed and 109 wounded by

unexploded cluster munitions. So far, the Lebanese Army, UN

peacekeepers, the mine action center, and its contractors have cleared

almost 40,000 unexploded cluster bombs, but up to a million more

remain, which need up to 15 months to clear.
